FAVCO Crane Luffing Cylinder Replacement

Overview:

Pressure Dynamics supported Jadestone Energy in delivering a major maintenance campaign aboard the Montara Venture Wellhead Platform involving the replacement of the luffing cylinder on a FAVCO crane. The works formed a critical scope to restore crane functionality and support continued safe offshore operations.

The project presented several technical and logistical challenges due to the complexity of the offshore environment and the critical nature of the equipment involved. The campaign required detailed planning, specialist support and close coordination to ensure all activities could be executed safely and efficiently.

Approach:

The project involved significant preparation before offshore mobilisation. The majority of the engineering scope, including scaffold and rigging design, pin removal tooling and detailed execution procedures, was developed in-house by the Jadestone Energy team to address the unique challenges associated with the works.

Pressure Dynamics worked closely with Jadestone throughout the planning and execution phases, providing specialist crane expertise to support the campaign. A dedicated crane technician was mobilised offshore to work alongside Jadestone personnel during the execution phase.

Collaborative planning activities ensured that equipment, materials and methodology were aligned prior to mobilisation, reducing uncertainty and helping mitigate potential risks associated with the replacement works. Particular consideration was given to scaffold and rigging requirements, offshore logistics and the potential challenges associated with releasing the luffing cylinder pins.

Outcome:

Through detailed planning, effective coordination and strong collaboration between teams, the campaign was successfully executed and the FAVCO crane was safely returned to service.

The project highlighted the value of early engagement and specialist technical support in managing complex offshore maintenance activities, demonstrating how a collaborative approach can help overcome operational challenges and deliver successful outcomes in demanding environments.
